helping make Washington, DC a national and global leader in sustainable development.
Client District Department of Environment
The Challenge: Support the District of Columbia, under the leadership of Mayor Vincent Gray and the District Department of Environment embark on a bold program to make Washington, DC a national and global leader in sustainable development.
The Outcome: Michael Altman began actively collaborating with the Downtown BID’s ecoDistrict to strategize how to design, brand and market a campaign designed to encourage and enable buidlings and businesses to make their operations more sustainable. He was a key member of the Sustainable DC Working Group that helped develop recommendations that were used as the foundation for Mayor Gray’s vision and ambitious goals for Sustainable DC. He was also a member of the Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Challenge stakeholder group.
One of the supporting components of Mayor Gray's plan is the Smarter DC Challenge, a program that commits property owners and tenants to smart sustainable business practices that improve the bottom line and reduce energy, water, waste, and transportation costs.
With its extensive network of local and regional connections and both B2B and B2C branding and marketing experience, Trialogue Studio was asked by the District Department of the Environment (DDOE) to consult on program brand development, marketing and communications. Trialogue worked with DDOE, the Downtown ecoDistrict and other stakeholders to define the program and specifically develop a marketing strategy to drive participation. Our work included developing the front end web site and social media presence.
The program is now out of its pilot phase in the Downtown BID and has been scaled city-wide since 2014.
